***************************************************************************** Reminder: Please send your letters using upper AND lower case, and remember to include your first and last name. Also please SPELL CHECK before sending. (FRIDAY) I wish that I could vote four times for Chuck Henry...4-F's. Do
they keep Ron I am glad to see that you are doing well... I am a little taken aback at your opinion regarding Chuck Henry at NBC. I think he is one of the best reporters/anchors in the area. He is definitely better then Paul Moyer. I think a little mispronunciation is not that big of a deal after all no one is perfect. Let he who makes no mistakes cast the first stone. :) Keep up the good work Russ Herbel - Orange, CA
Ron:
Given that
Michael Schiavo mispronounces his own name I think anyone can call it
whatever they want. He is an Italian with an anglicized his
name.
The name is correctly
"Skee-Aah-Voe" In Italian, a CH combination takes the
sound of K. Another, similar, common American
mispronunciation is of the word bruschetta. It's brew-sketta,
not brew-shetta. My name looks like sara-ghee-noe, but it's
chair-uh-ghee-noe given the other Italian rule: CE or CI take a "SH"
sound.
I heard a priest
at the Terri Schiavo memorial yesterday call her "she-aah-voe"
which is closer to the real thing than her husband ever came.. I
can guarantee you that the Italian media pronounces it "
Skee-Aah-Voe."
Warren Cereghino
(Most of us would agree that every person has a right to pronounce their name any way they like. You may not like to see names Americanized or anglicized, but that decision is up to the individual. So if Michael Schiavo pronounces his name Shyvo...then Shyvo is correct. As they say in Italian A ciascuno il suo....which means "To each his own." - Ron (TUESDAY)
So Don Corsini and Nancy Gonzales don't think very
much of their writers.
Doesn't that say at least as much about the Corsini
and Gonzales as it does about the writers? After all, they are
responsible for hiring those writers, aren't they? And, if
the current staff of writers doesn't measure up why haven't they been
replaced with better writers?
The answers are all too clear. Corsini and
Gonzalez have simply taken a cheap shot. One obviously
concocted to weigh on contract negotiations with the writers and for
no other purpose.
One wonders how can Corsini and Gonzales condone the
performances of some of their on-air talent (word used loosely) and
then make such a statement about the writers?
How can the stockholders condone Corsini and
Gonzalez? Especially now since, by admittedly hiring second-rate
writers, have proven that they haven't done (or are
incapable of doing) their jobs according to industry standards
for management?
BTW, I wonder who is responsible for those horrid
"From The Street" things that Corsini has done.

Ron:
I've been around
the business a long time. I've worked with lots of reporters --
consumer reporters, investigative reporters, bureau reporters,
business reporters, sports reporters, crime reporters. The list
goes on and on.
However you
mentioned something in your Friday edition I have never heard of.
You wrote about "KTTV American Idol reporter Kristin Holt"
Pray tell, what in the world is that?
Does the L.A.
Emmy Awards now have a category -- "Best American Idol
Reporter" ?
Reed Fullcrest
(In their infinite wisdom, KTTV hired Kristin Holt to report on American Idol for them. Holt is a former Idol contestant and also used to be an Idol correspondent on the the show. I feel funny calling her a "reporter," but technically I guess that is what she is. - Ron) I'm very sorry to hear that Bill Thomas won't be the successor
to Jennifer York over at KTLA. Though I continue to miss
Jennifer, Bill has always done a solid job as an airborne
reporter. He knows the Los Angeles area freeways very well, you
hear the quality of his work both on KTLA and numerous radio stations
over the years. I don't know enough about Desiree Horton to make
any comments, but I nonetheless still think that Bill deserved the
opportunity to get the opening at Channel 5. I'll make sure I
wear a Hawaiian shirt sometime this week in honor of Bill and
"Aloha Friday."
