BREAKSTONE GETTING THE BOOT

KCBS/KCAL has decided not to renew the contract of veteran political reporter Linda Breakstone. That still leaves them with political reporter Dave Bryan. I've not gotten word yet of when her last day is, but I'd think someone else in town might be interested in such an experienced political reporter. I guess we'll see.

KCAL MORNING SHOW FINALLY COMING? AMEZCUA SAID TO BE TALKING WITH THEM

I'm told that it looks like KCAL is going to start a morning show in January. The time I've been given is 7-9am.  When Lisa Joyner came to KCBS/KCAL, she told OTR that a KCAL morning show was part of the deal, but with no date set for one.  I would think this could be that show. One source tells me she will be doing it, and another says they don't think she will.  Hmmm.

I emailed Joyner and asked her about this new show. She says " I just don't know. I have heard the rumor for ages, but its never gotten off the ground."

If she were doing this new show, you'd think she'd have been told my now, wouldn't you?

Assuming this show is coming, it certainly would give Carlos Amezcua some place to go if KTLA is serious about letting him go. In fact, I am told that he is indeed negotiating with KCAL.  He's not only popular here in LA,  he is also old friends with news director Nancy Bauer Gonzales, which would certainly be another point in his favor.

BRECKENRIDGE CORRECTION

Just in case you were one of the readers who checked in early last Tuesday morning, I wanted you to know that some critical comments about Lisa Breckenridge were a mistake.  While my original emailer felt she was difficult to work with, one of the insiders who said they agreed, actually felt differently. When I emailed them, they thought I was talking about someone else. It was a mistake in communication for which I take responsibility. So in reality, this person who appeared to be criticizing her, actually considers her a friend and was actually talking about someone else.
